How to make Emmerdale more interesting

Next time something boring is on TV, find a rubber band and stretch it between finger and thumb.  Hold it in front of the screen, and pluck it with your other hand.

The rubber band will seem to move in slow motion.

This is because the TV image isn’t constant: in fact, it’s refreshed several times a second, but so fast you don’t normally notice.  It creates a strobe effect on the moving rubber band.

You could create your own disco effects for MTV.  Or something.
