Being driven mad by the latest 80s craze to make a comeback? Want to know how to solve the puzzle that has baffled so many for over 20 years? It’s simple really… It all comes down to a little logic.
The Rubik’s cube is made up of six faces, each comprised of 9 squares. For those new to the puzzle, the aim is to twist the cube to match up each face.
Ready for the clever bit? The cube is formed around a simple pivot. This means that the central square in each face does not move. For example, if you are looking at a face with a green square in the middle, this is the green side. If you’re lucky enough to have an exclusive (and devilishly difficult) NOISE cube, you might be looking at a side with a NOISEmaker face in the middle – this is the ‘face’ side. Once you understand this principle of the cube, you’ll find it much easier to solve.
The first step should be to solve the ‘cross’ – take one side and line up the cross in the centre, making sure the edge pieces line up. For instance, if you’re lining up the red and white ‘noise’ cross, the piece with the ‘e’ has a NOISEmaker face in its adjacent side – this needs to line up with the side with the NOISEmaker face picture in the middle and so on. Go on, give it another try!
