I am currently writting up my doctoral thesis at Surrey but my job takes me abroad for nine months a year. I have formed a, so far, very rewarding partnership with a team of architects in Greece where we are involved in residential building design and interior space design for bars and nightclubs, which gets us invited as VIPs at openings (hehe).

This job would suit:
It is also not a job for a shy person. You have to talk to people all day long, and communication skills are absolutely necessary. However, these are qualities that you can develop over the years. Few people are born with them and I am certainly not one of them. Imagination goes without saying and updating yourself on modern materials and tendencies is also necessary. The money is great. Qualifications needed:
To form this kind of company you would need at least one architect and one civil engineer. Experience working for other people for a number of years is essential or you won't know what you 're doing. However, interior designers are employable, and you definitely do not need a PhD. One might say that it is a shame that my job is somewhat irrelevant to my PhD; however the truth is that advanced knowledge of materials comes in handy every day and the Dr. title sounds great...
What's the financial reward?
