25 March 2009 ROUTES - Game to discover the secrets in your genes

Hi

I have been quite busy in the lab this week but I have just been on this website called Routes, which is all about discovering the secrets in your genes. I really love it - check out the link below.

http://www.routesgame.com/home/

It is so informative and educating but on a more personal level, I like the way they use humour to illustrate the points of disease and how people, real people, cope with such debilitating conditions. I watched a clip on the hompage and liked it so much I want to see more of it, there really is so much to see and do on this site.

I then saw the games and was amazed. This is such a cool way of informing young aspiring scientists of the basics of genetics by making it simple and fun. Well done to the creators. They have also linked it with popular websites such as Facebook and Bebo which will make it catch on around the world to people of all ages. The games are really cool.

I played sneeze this morning - http://www.routesgame.com/games/?challengeId=2

There are various levels where you have to go around infecting people by spreading a virus. It really disseminated quite amazingly how viruses and bacteria can spread so quickly by simply sneezing on one another.

This website is simply brilliant. It's making science fun by using games which kids love to understand the basic scientific underpins. Crucial!

I hope you get the chance to have a look at the website - it really is worthwhile!
